I have put my article, "The surprising history of Romans 6 and baptism in
the early Church" online in a format that is easy to print and download. Evidence
from Romans 6 and Colossians 2 indicates that the first century AD Church
shared the common understanding that through baptism a Christian was
buried with Christ into his saving death. This is a dominate
understanding in the fourth and fifth centuries. However, the Romans 6
theology seems to have been almost completely forgotten during the
second century A.D. The article is available through the link: The surprising history of Romans 6 and baptism in the early Church
