Didn't meet any girl in college who was a devout Christian and who I was interested in. Feminism has turned a lot of single women away from the church. I'm finding that non-denom/baptist churches have the largest pool to choose from, but you often get a lot of weird beliefs that go along with it. I converted to Lutheranism from Evangelicalism back in 2014, and there are no singles at my church or at any of the other Lutheran churches I've visited throughout the West Coast in the past eight years. I've been trying to find a Christian wife for many years and tried all sorts of online and offline resources, including various Lutheran singles groups on Facebook, but to no avail. It seems to me that if one hasn't found a spouse in college as a Christian, then one has a very difficult road ahead.

I would like to get married, but I have a feeling I'm going to be single for life because it is so difficult finding a Christian to marry whom I'm interested in and who is interested in me.Michael McThrowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05235218567806483141noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2447271489594435093.post-39694347409709078002022-03-06T17:16:54.582-08:002022-03-06T17:16:54.582-08:00Sermons specially for Kids are bit more complicate...Sermons specially for Kids are bit more complicated as you will need to have to explain things to them a little bit more than to adults. Since becoming widowed in late 2017, I have been dating garden variety Christians, thinking there was no one in my Lutheran church that I was "attracted to." I finally asked a fine Lutheran woman out and we are together and serious about pursuing marriage. If I had opened my eyes toward the GODLY rather than what the EYES wanted as a filter, and done it earlier, we might have already been married. A lot of time was wasted and heartache obtained over the 4 years. He also named his two daughters after women in the Apocrypha, Judith and Susanna.

George Fredric Handel wrote an oratorio about Judas Maccabeus.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote a five-act tragedy about Judas Maccabeus.

Mel Gibson was going to make a movie about Judas Maccabeus, but it was shelved due to Gibson’s supposed anti-Semitic reputation. (See https://www.thewrap.com/warner-brothers-pulls-plug-mel-gibson-maccabee-movie-exclusive-36952/)

Hanukkah and Judas Maccabaeus are even mentioned in a Peanuts' comic strip! (See: https://www.gocomics.com/peanuts/1970/12/23)

Judith has been depicted in dozens of paintings and sculptures over the years, including on a portion of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

Christopher Columbus made a number of erroneous geographical assumptions which led him to believe that the sailing distance between Europe and Asia must be relatively short. One of these was from the apocryphal book 2nd Esdras which purports to describe the days of creation: “On the third day you commanded the waters to be gathered together in a seventh part of the earth; six parts you dried up and kept so that some of them might be planted and cultivated and be of service before you.“ (2nd Esdras 6:42)

In the Protestant church, in Martin Rinkart's hymn "Now Thank We All Our God" Rinkart Rinkart used Luther’s translation of a portion of the apocryphal book Sirach (Ecclesiasticus 50:20-24). For some unknown reason the current LCMS hymnal (LSB) doesn’t mention that this hymn is based on Sirach, but previous hymnals (like TLH) did.

The hymns "Silent Night" and "It Came upon a Midnight Clear" each were influenced by portions of the Apocrypha.

In the LCMS we use portions of the Apocrypha in our worship services in LSB in Introits, a Gradual, and a Verse (See the 2012 CPH commentary on the Apocrypha, pages 387-388.)

For all the above reasons (and more) I think that a well-rounded Christian should read through the Apocrypha at least once.
Faith Lutheran Youthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17473487351668928736noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2447271489594435093.post-76684724226903020072021-12-29T10:59:49.858-08:002021-12-29T10:59:49.858-08:00Man is more normal, healthy or happy the more he c...Man is more normal, healthy or happy the more he can, successfully, repress, displace, deny, rationalize, dramatize himself and deceive others. As a long-tim...Yes, i was having that problem too. As a long-time conservative Reformed Christian, i've started attending a local LCMS church lately. This particular LCMS church is very traditional in liturgy, but it appears to be mostly alone there in this region. Very distressing. If i'm in Reformed church, i want it to be Reformed; if i'm in a Lutheran church, i want it to be Lutheran. It's a matter of simple honesty and integrity here. I don't want to be in a confused group. Their confusion will probably extend to other things as well.
Now someone might claim that "Oh we're sound in our theology; it's just the liturgy that's unimportant." But liturgy is driven by theology, whether in Reformed circles or Lutheran circles. And so these folks with the confused man-centered 'liturgy' parading up front, probably have some confused man-centered theology as well, but they just haven't publicly admitted it yet, maybe not even to themselves. It will become more clear and public in time though, as church history shows us.
Mad Hungarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16659294288175056266noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2447271489594435093.post-81249822197799186732021-10-18T09:45:58.767-07:002021-10-18T09:45:58.767-07:00Very nice post. I, a Christian, want to hear more often why Christ died for me on the cross and be exhorted to live a life worthy of my calling. If this is not done more often, I am likely to take my renewed life for granted and forget altogether a life that’s pleasing to my Lord.macben.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11237987014398828220noreply@blogger.com
